The Thursday, April 16, 2009 Charlie Rose Conversation with Jim Lehrer

Jim Lehrer is here. As the executive editor and anchor of “The
NewsHour with Jim Lehrer” on PBS, he’s been a keen observer of Washington
politics for more than 30 years. He’s also a seasoned author. He has
written two memoirs, three plays, and his latest book, “Oh, Johnny,” is his
19th novel. And he’s already -- get this -- written his 20th novel, and
that will be out sometime in the future.

I’m pleased to have Jim Lehrer back at this table. Welcome.

JIM LEHRER: Thank you, Charlie.

CHARLIE ROSE: All right, here’s the -- I want to talk briefly about
this book, and then we’re going to get on to other issues. Not more
important, just other.

JIM LEHRER: Oh, OK.

CHARLIE ROSE: All right. This is the story of a young man who’s
going to become a flame thrower in the Marines on Okinawa. Before he goes,
he’d wanted to be a baseball player. Stops in Wichita, meets a girl.
